The Old Course, St Andrews

The Old Links

Scotland

Where the game was born, and the light never quite leaves.

On Scotland

Scotland's ancient links, arranged in the order that makes sense to the people playing them. St Andrews first or last, depending on how you want the trip to feel, and the coastal rounds between done at a pace that leaves room for lunch.

This is where we started, and where most of our year is still spent.

From the notebook

No two journeys share an itinerary. These are the places we return to, and the ones we send people to when they trust us.

  • The Old CourseThe round you owe yourself, arranged the right way.
  • North BerwickThe most fun a serious golfer can have.
  • Royal DornochWorth every mile of the journey north.
  • Cruden BayThe drive up is half the argument.

And more we argue about.

Off the course

  • The drinkA warehouse dram on Islay, and a nightcap taken seriously.
  • The waterA cold swim before breakfast in the North Sea.
  • The tableSeafood off the day boats in Fife.
  • For the non-playersEdinburgh in whatever measure suits, castles and galleries, and a day of doing gloriously little.

A week here, roughly

Three nights in Fife with St Andrews at the centre, then north for Dornoch and Cruden Bay, or southwest for the Ayrshire coast. Lunch treated as a fixture rather than a pause. The light stays late. So does everyone.

The next step

It starts with a conversation.
